Building a new environmental Future with Bioeconomy

Building a new environmental Future with Bioeconomy

During March and April 2019, Olha Doskochynska,  a computer science teacher, together with school students took part in a project which was based on Bioeconomy.

During that time, I became acquainted with the conception of Bioeconomy, studying  the Boosting Bioeconomy Knowledge in Schools online course of the European Schoolnet Academy and   learning how I can explore sustainable economic solutions with my students!  As knowledge about bioeconomy is an essential requirement for students of the 21st century. I have created a scenario of lessons and carried out these lessons for students 10-16 years old.

That learning scenarios aims at an overarching understanding of bioeconomy by connecting everyday life examples to the topic at hand, then developing further into an entire project.

That learning scenario is divided into three parts. The first part introduces bioeconomy. After watching a short clip about bioeconomy, students receive different objects that they have to categorize according to them being bio-based or non-bio-based.

The second part involves producing Soaps from Glycerin.

The advertisements of the students will be presented in class.

The third part for younger students involves planning an exhibition or science fair; for older students: planning a science project, together with local stakeholders.
